Smells Like Alternative

Pearl Jam - Rarities, B-sides, Demos

by acostill on May 13th, 2008

If you happen to be a Pearl Jam nut like I am then you probably want anything and everything that the guys have recorded.

Sure, the eight studio albums are great and I can’t get enough of them. But, the band has recorded so much more in their extensive career.

Lost Dogs gave us all a taste of what else the guys had stashed away in their arsenal, but for some time now I’ve greedily been looking for more and more of their rarities, b-sides and more to satisfy my hunger.

Thankfully the internet has helped to appease this hunger, not to mention some wonderful people out there who have generously taken the time to share their  secret supply of Pearl Jam.

One such place is gremmie.net.

Here you can listen to pretty much anything that you heart desires from Pearl Jam. There are unreleased tracks that didn’t make Lost Dogs, some killer live cuts, demos from back in the day like from Mookie Baylock (which was Pearl Jam’s first band name) and the albums Ten, Vs., Vitalogy, and Binaural. There also songs from soundtracks, singles and non Pearl Jam efforts that the guys have done.

It’s a very cool site that will keep you occupied and happy for quit some time.

Another spot you should check out is I Am Fuel, You Are Friends.

Heather is an awesome Pearl Jam who has shared a lot of cool music with the world. She was able to secure a Pearl Jam promotional CD for Lost Dogs that has numerous gems, like rough mixes and outtakes from tracks that were included on Lost Dogs, one being a vastly different version of “Light Years” entitled “Puzzle and Game”, which I love. Not to mention some unreleased tunes like “Sunburn”, “(Just A) Girl”and “Anything In Between”. Also there is a live version of the ‘new’ “Jeremy” from 1995.

Have fun and happy listening!

Here’s a video for the ‘new’ “Jeremy”.
