Pearl Jam - Live at the Gorge 05/06

by User Imageacostill on June 26th, 2007

Pearl Jam’s decision to release a 7-disc box set from their Gorge, WA shows from 2005 and 2006 stirs up mixed emotions. As a fan, I look forward to any Pearl Jam release and a box set should have me skipping around. The setlists from these shows make me kick myself for not making the trip across the States to Seattle. The shows include the usual suspects of hits that include “Black”, “Given To Fly”, “Even Flow”, “Corduroy”, “Better Man”, “Alive” and “Yellow Ledbetter”. Not to mention gems such as “Low Light”, “Sad”, “Insignificance”, “Leash”, “Satan’s Bed”, “God’s Dice” and “Dirty Frank” and new tracks from last year’s self titled album (”World Wide Suicide”, “Severed Hand” “Life Wasted”, etc.). Of course Pearl Jam also manages to throw in covers, from songs that they’ve made their own (”Rockin in the Free World”, “Baba O’ Riley”, “Crazy Mary” and “Last Kiss”) to less common covers (”Little Wing” and “I Won’t Back Down”).

With 7-discs this box set is enough Pearl Jam to get any fan through the summer and keep fans at bay until their next tour, unless you happen to live in Europe or attending this year’s Lollapalooza in Chicago. My only problem is that the box set would have been more enjoyable if the band had released a box set of selected performances from their 2006 tour; consider it an expanded edition of the 2000 Touring Band dvd, which would truely illustrate their versatility and great live performances at shows in different cities. But hey, any Pearl Jam is good Pearl Jam.

Well, this shows how up to date I am lately. My friend was at one of these show… I live in WA for pete’s sake - yet, did I know about this box set. No. I’m not sure what kind of rock I’m residing under but thanks for the heads up. I can’t wait to hear the Little Wing cover.

“Little Wing” sounds amazing. And, Pearl Jam will be back soon (probably next year) and, espicially in Seattle. One of my dreams is to see them play in Seattle, so anyone that has or will, I’m jealous.
