New Music Tuesday: Weezer, Radiohead, Gavin Rossdale

by User Imageacostill on June 3rd, 2008

It’s Tuesday, which means brand new music. This week will be an interesting one for 90’s alt. rock fans with releases from Weezer, Radiohead and Gavin Rossdale.

Weezer’s sixth studio album was supposed to be released on June 24, but after many of the songs were leaked, the album was moved up to today. The Red Album, as it’s been dubbed, has already scored a modest hit with it’s first single, the catchy “Pork and Beans”. However, the real concern from fans is can the band’s third self-titled release finally live up to the band’s early potential? Early reviews don’t seem to think so. But, let’s face it, Rivers has duped us again and knows that we’ll still buy the album.

Here’s the hilarious video for “Pork and Beans”.

Radiohead also has a new release today, but they’re not too happy about it. We all know that the band’s Best of (which is actually more of a greatest hits collection) is one last chance for their former label Capital to make one last profit from the band. Not that I have anything against greatest hits compilations, since they are a nice purchase for casual fans or as an introduction to a band. But, Radiohead is one of those bands where their albums, not tracks, are important, so it’s hard to pinpoint exactly the “best” songs. However, as a scam to fool die hards into buying the album, the compilation does contain the b-side “Talk Show Host” and a live cut of the unreleased track “True Love Waits”.

Here’s the video for one of the Best Of tracks, “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”

One final release worth mentioning is the debut album from former Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale. It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything musically from Mr. Gwen Stefani. And, I’m not exactly sure it we’re ready just yet. The first single from Wandurlust, “Love Remains the Same”, is a uber sappy track that will fair well on VH1. From reading some reviews and sampling some of the tunes, Wandurlust has the same problem that every Rossdale album has…songs with potential trashed by half hearted lyrics. However, one redeeming factor for the album is the track “The Trouble I’m In”, which features vocals from Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson.

Check out Gavin’s acting skills, and hear samples from Wandurlust, in this trailer for the album.
