Dave Grohl To Join Led Zeppelin?

by acostill on January 2nd, 2008

I was browsing around the music channel here at b5 and saw a post on Brit Music Scene about Dave Grohl wanting to replace the legendary John Bonham behind the drum kit.

The former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman is one of my favorite musicians around, and I love Zeppelin too, so this sounds like a dream come true. It would just be sick. Grohl is hands down on the best drummers out there and I think he could handle himself pretty well with Zeppelin.

But…would this actually happen? Would die hard Zeppelin fans welcome him as the replacement for Bonham? A better question would be if the remaining members would actually let Grohl in on the fun?

We have to remember that Zeppelin called it quits after the death of Bonham and it always seemed fitting that his son Jason would be the only choice as a replacement.

Personally, I don’t see this happening. Dave is awesome, but I think that this is just a boyhood dream of playing with his idols. I think a better solution would be having the Foos open up for Zeppelin (if they actually do tour) and maybe have Dave sit in on a couple of songs with them.

    Lame idea. I don’t think it’ll happen.

In other news ever since I saw that darn Eddie Hard Sun video you posted I’ve been obsessed — I found some of the tunes from Into the Wild online. You know where you know you should quit listening but can’t. That’s me. Now I have to order the album. Hope you’re happy.

Today’s my last day at Hippie Sounds too. But I can’t decide what to post. Hmmm. (Not Ed!)

Hahaha, I love it. That Into The Wild soundtrack of his is addictive. I’ve been listening to it all the time since it came out like in September; I think everyone I know is getting sick of it. But yes, it does make me happy that you’re obsessed with it : )

Maybe you should post something about the Beatles.

    I only smoke cigarettes.

Anyways, yeah Dave Grohl is one of the best drummers around right now. I can’t believe that someone would call him a joke. The man is uber talented.

    So here’s a quick resume:

Nirvana: Drums, although he did switch with Kurt during the song “Marigold”.

Foo Fighters: Eveything at one point because their debut album was just Dave. He also re-recorded a number of drum tracks for The Colour and the Shape.

Pearl Jam: He joined the band for a handful of shows in Australia in 1995.

Mike Watt: He played the drums for Watt’s Ball-Hog or Tugboat album and joined him on tour as well.

Tom Petty: He played drums for Petty’s Saturday Night Live apperance in 1994.

Queens of the Stone Age: Drums for Songs for the Deaf

Killing Joke: Drums on their 2003 self-titled album.

Garbage: Drums on the track Bad Boyfriend.

Tenacious D: Drums on their debut album.

Tony Iommi: Vocals and drums on the track Goodbye Lament.

Nine Inch Nails: Provided drums for several tracks on the album With Teeth.

Pete Yorn: Drums on the track For Us.

Cat Power: Drums on the 2003 album You Are Free.

Probot: Pretty much all the instruments, except for vocals on Grohl’s metal side project.

That’s a pretty impressive list to me, but the each their own.

He’s got a great resume but he’s still not a great drummer.

He is a great, talented person…. but just an OK drummer as far is REAL drummers go.

Like I said earlier, to each to their own, but I still politely disagree in stating that Dave Grohl is one of the best drummers around today. And I’m not alone…
