Candlebox Returns with New Album and a Tour

Candlebox Returns with New Album and a Tour

While not one of my favorite bands from the 90’s, it’s cool to see the Seattle natives return with a new album.
Candlebox will release their fourth studio album Into the Sun on July 22, which will be the band’s first album in 10 years. Into the Sun will also feature the original lineup, which hasn’t been together since 1996. The album will also feature some tracks with former Pearl Jam drummer Dave Krusen, who was also in Candlebox from 1997 to 1999.
Besides a new album, the band will also be on the road this summer. They’ll kick off their tour …read more

Last night Beck played a surprise gig at the Echo in Los Angeles, where he unveiled five tracks from his upcoming album Modern Guilt.
Just over 300 folks were lucky enough to check out the hour long set, which also included some classic Beck tunes.
Modern Guilt will be Beck’s tenth, which was produced by Danger Mouse, and is expected to be released any day now, so keep your eyes and ears open.
You can watch a video of “Modern Guilt” from last night’s secret show right here.
And, in case you haven’t heard it yet, here’s the fantastic first single from Modern …read more

Besides streaming the new album today, the band is also premiering their video for the first single entitled “Hammerhead”; which can be downloaded for free at the band’s official site.
I must say that I haven’t really cared for much of The Offspring’s catalog of late, but “Hammerhead” is an awesome track.
Enjoy the brand spanking new video for “Hammerhead”.

Yahoo’s 25 Best Alt-Rock Bands of the 90’s

Yahoo’s 25 Best Alt-Rock Bands of the 90’s

You could probably imagine my excitement when I jumped online this morning and saw that Yahoo had compiled a list of the 25 best alternative rock bands of the 1990’s.
Then, it dawned on me that music lists on Yahoo are made up by this clown named Rob O’ Connor, but I still gave it chance.
While it’s not a bad list at all, he did make the mistake of leaving out some of the best. Bands like Radiohead and Pearl Jam (right there is no no) and even the amazing Jeff Buckley were not included. But, Pavement and Cracker were …read more

New Music Tuesday: Weezer, Radiohead, Gavin Rossdale

New Music Tuesday: Weezer, Radiohead, Gavin Rossdale

It’s Tuesday, which means brand new music. This week will be an interesting one for 90’s alt. rock fans with releases from Weezer, Radiohead and Gavin Rossdale.
Weezer’s sixth studio album was supposed to be released on June 24, but after many of the songs were leaked, the album was moved up to today. The Red Album, as it’s been dubbed, has already scored a modest hit with it’s first single, the catchy “Pork and Beans”. However, the real concern from fans is can the band’s third self-titled release finally live up to the band’s early potential? Early reviews don’t …read more

311 Working on New Album

311 Working on New Album

The boys from Omaha have apparently entered the studio to begin work on album number nine. The band has been joined by Metallica producer Bob Rock, who has also worked with Motley Crue, The Offspring and Aerosmith.
For now there are no other details, but the band has stated that they will spend more time than usual in the studio with two full sessions planned. The new album could see a release date by the spring of 2009.
If you can’t wait for a new 311 album, then remember that they will be on the road this summer with Snoop Dogg …read more

Sonic Youth Compilation Picked By Some Big Names

Sonic Youth Compilation Picked By Some Big Names

Sonic Youth are set to release Hits Are For Squares on June 1o exclusively through uber corporate chain Starbucks (ugh, not cool) in their New York, L.A., San Fran, Philly, Seattle, Boston and D.C. stores, as well as on line.
What is great about the compilation is that some cool folks handpicked the tracks, which goes like this:
“Bull in the Heather,” selected by Catherine Keener“Sugar Kane,” selected by Beck“100%,” selected by Mike D“Kool Thing,” selected by Radiohead “Disappearer,” selected by Portia De Rossi “Superstar,” selected by Diablo Cody“Stones,” selected by Allison Anders“Tuff Gnarl,” selected by Dave Eggers and Mike Watt“Teenage Riot,” …read more

Beck Streaming New Song

Beck Streaming New Song

Beck is currently streaming a new track entitled “Chemtrails” on his official site and his MySpace page.
“Chemtrials”premiered yesterday (May 19) on BBC Radio 1 and will be included on Beck’s upcoming album, which was produced by some dude named Danger Mouse. It’s a very cool track. It’s mellow and hypnotic during the chorus, which I didn’t expect. I’ve listened to it like six times already, and it gets better with each listen.
Anyways, the upcoming album remains untitled and should be coming out this summer with an unannounced release date, just like the Raconteurs just did with Consolers of the Lonely …read more

Scott Weiland Recording 2nd Solo Album

Scott Weiland Recording 2nd Solo Album

Despite getting back together with STP, Scott Weiland is already looking forward to his second solo album.
While on the Howard Stern show, Weiland announced that he was working on the album with legendary producer Steve Albini (he’s worked with the Pixies, Page & Plant, PJ Harvey and Nirvana). Also, Weiland revealed that No Doubt’s Adrian Young would be appearing as the album’s drummer.
As of now, there is no other info, but I did read that November is the expected release date, so we’ll have to wait and see.
I’m looking forward to this album, it should be interesting.
And, if anyone is …read more

Jane’s Addiction Reunion

Jane’s Addiction Reunion

Last week I mentioned that Jane’s Addiction would be receiving the “Godlike Genius Award” from NME.
Now, it gets even better.
The band’s original bassist, Eric Avery, will be reuniting with the rest of the band. This will mark the first performance from the original line up since 1991.
Jane’s will be receiving the award on April 23 in L.A. and are scheduled to play a three song set at the event
Like I said last week, maybe this will be the beginning of another Jane’s reunion, although with Avery this time, makes it pretty sweet.
Now enjoy a blast from the past with the video …read more
