The Last Post

OK, this time it’s the real thing.
This is the post for me here at b5, and it’s been great.
I’ll be heading over to Evolvor to keep doing what I’m doing, stop on by sometime.
Thank you, goodnight.

Ben Folds Posts New Song

Ben Folds Posts New Song

Ben Folds, formerly of Ben Folds Five, just posted a new song on his MySpace page.
The track, entitled “Bitch Went Nutz”, is from Ben Folds’ upcoming album Way To Normal.
Way To Normal is the follow up to 2005’s Songs For Silverman and will hit shelves on September 30.
Enjoy a slide show of the first single “You Don’t Know Me”, which features vocals by one Regina Spektor.

The album, entitled Varshons, will be released on September 13. It was produced by Cornershop’s Anthony Safferty and Butthole Surfers frontman Gibby Haynes. The 11 track album will feature guest vocal spots from Liv Tyler and Kate Moss.
Hmm, sounds interesting.

Rage Against The Machine Adds Minneapolis Show

Rage Against The Machine Adds Minneapolis Show

Fresh off of causing some mayhem this past weekend at Lollapalooza, the guys in Rage Against The Machine have added another single show here in the States.
The band will play the Target Center in Minneapolis on September 3. Tickets will go on sale this Saturday at 10 a.m. and will cost you $60.
What’s rather significant about the date and location of this show is that it’s during the same time of the Republican National Convention, which will be held next door in St. Paul. Hmm, this sounds good. Real good.
This isn’t the first time that Rage has popped up …read more

2 Weeks Left of Smells Like Alternative

2 Weeks Left of Smells Like Alternative

I thought yesterday was my last day here at b5, but last night I got an e-mail (which I didn’t read until this morning since I was at the Springsteen concert at Giants Stadium) that informed me that I’m here until August 14.
So, I have two weeks left here at b5 and then I’ll be moving over to Evolvor.
I hope everyone has a great weekend and I’ll see you all on Monday!
For now enjoy Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band doing “Summertime Blues” from last night’s show. Yeah, I know it’s not a 90’s act, but we’ll make an …read more

Our Lady Peace Working on New Album

Our Lady Peace Working on New Album

Our Lady Peace are working on their follow up to 2005’s Healthy In Paranoid Times.
The Canadian band reportedly have 16 or 17 tracks ready for the new album and began work on the new album in February of 2007. The guys should be getting back to work on the new album anytime now.
On July 5 guitarist Steve Mazur left a post on the band’s MySpace page that stated: “Many songs are finished, we’re just writing more now `cause we’re having a good time doing it [...] so we figure why not just keep going until we feel that we’re …read more

New Release Tuesaday: Candlebox, Nine Inch Nails, Beck

New Release Tuesaday: Candlebox, Nine Inch Nails, Beck

Another Tuesday, which means another set of new releases.
Candlebox returns with their first studio album in ten years. Now, I was never a huge Candlebox fan, but any band that managed to survive the 90’s is alright in my book. The new album, entitled Into The Sun, will probably grab the attention of most 90’s fans. I don’t know if I’ll pick it up, but if you want a review wait for Scott over at The Rock Dose to deliver one.
Here’s an acoustic, live performance of the first single “Stand”.

Nine Inch Nails are releasing the previous free download album The …read more

Liz Phair Adds Three East Coast Dates

Liz Phair Adds Three East Coast Dates

Liz Phair has already hit New York, Chicago and San Fran in support of the 15th Anniversary reissue of her breakthrough album Exit From Guyville.
Phair has now added three more dates to celebrate her 1993 debut, which include:
8/27 in Philadelphia at the Theater of the Living Arts
8/28 in Washington, DC at the 9:30 Club
8/29 in Boston at The Paradise
The shows will feature Phair performing Exit To Guyville in it’s entirety, which seems pretty cool to me.
If you’re not sure about going to one of these shows then check out a review from Rolling Stone.
Enjoy the video for “Never Said”.

It Doesn’t Smell Like Alternative Anymore

It Doesn’t Smell Like Alternative Anymore

Last week I received the news that b5 was retiring this site, as well as, several other great music blogs here. The company has to do what they have to and basically trim the fat. So, once July is over, so is this site.
It’s been a blast working here and sharing some of my favorite music with people from all over the place. I guess it’s true what they say, nothing good lasts forever.
However, I will be heading over to Evolvor to keep doing what I am doing, it may not be exactly the same, but it’s better than …read more
