The plan is for Year Zero to become a two-season maxi-series for HBO. Reznor had stated that he met with HBO big wigs and pitched the idea and that it’s “been a fun thing”.

Year Zero began as a concept album in 2007 and describes the world in 2022, after the current administration in the States ruins everything. The album was then turned into a video game and it was rumored about becoming a film, but that fell through.

Sounds pretty cool to me, HBO has made some great series.

Nine Inch Nails latest album was initially given away as a free download through the band’s website last month, which it will continue to do. In the U.S., Canada and parts of Japan, 200,000 individually numbered copies of the 2-disc set will be released. The same will occur in Europe and Australia, however, they won’t be numbered or limited. The album will also feature a bonus disc on Nine Inch Nails rehearsing tracks from The Slip, as well as, a 24 page booklet and stickers (how did Trent know that everyone loves stickers).

The track was written for the 1997 David Lynch flick Lost Highway, which starred Bill Pullman and Patricia Arquette. “The Perfect Drug”, as an audio release, has only appeared on the soundtrack to Lost Highway in North America. It did, however, have it’s own EP, known as Halo 11, which contained remixes of the song. It has also appeared on the 1999 3-disc single for “We’re In This Together” and the “Into the Void” single in 2000.

“The Perfect Drug” has never been preformed live by Nine Inch Nails and Trent Reznor has stated that it’s his least favorite creation. Why? Because of the short production time and overblown video.

Sorry, I don’t agree with you there Trent. I think this song is sick. I love how it ends with the line, “without you everything falls apart”. It’s good stuff.

Reznor and company had released a free single entitled “Discipline” a free weeks ago and now have done the album as a thanks to fans. What’s even cooler is that the album is licensed by Creative Commons, which means fans can pretty much do whatever they want with the music. If your a traditionalist, don’t worry, because cd and vinyl copies of The Slip will come out in July.

Now, I did download the album and listened to it once, it’s pretty good. It seems like a straightforward NIN album, but you should check it out, I mean it’s not going to cost you anything.

R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots have been tapped to participate in the 10th annual Voodoo Music Festival down in New Orleans from October 24-26.

Tickets go on sale this Friday, May 2, and for all your additional info check out the festival’s official site.

Besides the Voodoo Fest, Lollapalooza and the Virgin Festival had previously announced line-ups filled with alternative bands including Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, and the Foo Fighters. Oddly enough, Trent Reznor and company will be a part of all three festivals.

It’s a pretty cool song, but should anyone really complain? I mean Trent is really sticking to this giving away music thing, which is awesome.

Besides enjoying the track as is, fans also have an opportunity to remix the tune at the band’s remix site.

The band also mentioned that more tour info and “some other info about something else, too” would be arriving soon. One can only speculate with Trent.

As of now, Nine Inch Nails will kick off their tour on July 25 at the first ever Pemberton Festival and will run until September. You can check out their full schedule right here.
