Jeff Buckley Gets Boost From American Idol

I guess American Idol finally did something that is worth mentioning.
The show has apparently exposed a new generation to the wonderful music of Jeff Buckley, who I still say was one of the best artists ever.
So, here’s what happened: A contestant was on the show and performed “Hallelujah” back on March 4, which was originally done by recent Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame inductee Leonard Cohen. The result was a huge sales jump for Buckley’s version, which included topping iTunes sales chart and Hot Digital Songs with 178,000 downloads!

Jeff Buckley Tribute Concerts

There will be a handful of birthday tribute concerts for Jeff Buckley this week.
One of the bigger tribute shows will take place in L.A. at the Key Club on November 15. The show will be hosted by Jack Osbourne (I have no clue why though, ugh) and will feature over 30 acts!
Other cities hosting tribute shows for Jeff Buckley include Chicago, Paris and Austin.

I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long to mention Jeff Buckley’s Grace, since it’s one of my favorite albums ever.
Released on August 23, 1994, this was Jeff Buckley’s first and last complete studio album. In 2004, a Legacy edition was released, which includes the long sought after “Forget Her”
At some point you’ve probably heard his cover of “Hallelujah” While it’s a great track, Grace has so much more to offer.

Unfortunately, May 29 marked the 10th anniversary of Jeff Buckley’s tragic passing. There will a number of tribute events happening throughout the year and back on May 22 a compilation entitled So Real: The Songs from Jeff Buckley was released. So, it seems like a good time to dedicate an FYI in his honor. 

Jeff Buckley was born on 11/17/1966 to Tim Buckley and Mary Guibert.
He was raised by his mother and step-father, and had little contact with Tim Buckley.
Growing up he used his step-father’s last name and was known as Scott Moorhead.
