The former Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman teamed up with producer Timbaland for the new album, which is entitled Scream. And here’s what he had to say about it: “Tim lent a lot to what I describe as sort of the psychedelic aspect of this album, kind of a Pink Floyd or Dark Side of the Moon or almost like a Queen Night at the Opera type of a feel to me. That’s something I never would have predicted. You know, I would have felt like I would be the one that would try to go into the album-oriented rock world, and really it was Tim’s influence on this album that pushed it more in that direction.”

The tracks sound like, well, Chris Cornell singing over those beats that made Timbaland famous. I’ll have to listen to the entire album before I pass judgment, but I hope it’s better than last year’s Carry On.

Cornell teamed up with the band Eleven to record “Ave Maria”; he would also work with them for his debut solo album Euphoria Morning. This was a smart move to record “Ave Maria” with Eleven, because the duet between Cornell and Natasha Shneider is freaking awesome. 

So, sit back and enjoy some Christmas tunes..90’s style.

What makes this even better is that friends/collaborators are pitted against each other in the Best Song Written For Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media category.

Vedder’s “Guaranteed”, from Into The Wild, and Cornell’s “You Know My Name”, from Casino Royale, are the nominated tracks.

Honestly, I hope Vedder wins. I know I’m bias towards anything that anyone from Pearl Jam does, but Vedder’s music from Into The Wild is a wonderful piece of work. I’m glad that he’s getting recognized for it.

I know that I was shocked when I first heard “Can’t Change Me”, because it was vastly different than anything I heard from Soundgarden. It’s a shame that this was his first and only single released from Euphoria Morning, because it’s just a fantastic album.

I’ve always loved this song and probably always will. It has such a great premise, you know about this powerful that can do anything except change another person.

If you want something really cool, then you should check out the French version that was found on international versions of Euphoria Morning. Hearing Cornell sing in French is just awesome.

He’s currently wrapping up some dates in the Western parts of the U.S. and Canada before heading to Australia and then returning to the States…again! I think my man needs a well deserved rest soon.

The Inland Invasion will feature The Smashing Pumpkins, Foo Fighters, Velvet Revolver, Kid Rock, Chris Cornell, Satellite Party, Cypress Hill, Hot Hot Heat, Against Me! and Paramore.

Tickets are very reasonably priced at $35, $65 and $85. What a deal.

If I lived in the L.A. area I would be at this show in a flash. Seriously, The Pumpkins, Foos, VR, Cornell and Satellite Party in one day, it’s too good to be true. Sure, you may have to put up with Kid Rock, but nothing is perfect.

• In 1995 Weiland’s side project The Magnificent Bastards covered “How Do You Sleep?” and the Layne Staley/Mike McCready project Mad Season covered “I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier” on Working Class Hero: A Tribute To John Lennon.
• In July of 1996 AIC replaces STP as the opening band for Kiss, due to Scott Weiland’s drug problems.
• On November 6, 2001 Jerry Cantrell performs “Got Me Wrong” with STP live in Dallas.
• Duff McKagan joins AIC for their 2006 reunion tour.

• Soundgarden opens up for Guns N’ Roses in 1991.
• Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were part of the 1992 Lollapalooza lineup, which also featured STP on the second stage.

• The 2007 horror flick, Bug, features Scott Weiland with “Learning To Drive” (a unreleased STP track) and an acoustic version of Cornell’s “Disappearing Act”.

• Talk Show (STP without Scott) toured with the Foo Fighters in 1997.

• STP and Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder started out in the San Diego music scene in the late 80’s.
• Both STP and Eddie Vedder have played with the remaining members of The Doors; they’ve also both covered “Break On Through (To The Otherside)” and “Roadhouse Blues”.
• Pearl Jam and STP have both covered songs by the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.

Former Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell put on a phenomenal show in Atlantic City. It didn’t hurt that the Music Box was a immaculate venue at the beautiful Borgata. It only held around 900 people, so there wasn’t a bad seat in the house.

Cornell’s vocals have been amazingly restored, after he stopped smoking and drinking. I remember seeing Audioslave back in 2003 and thinking that Chris Cornell’s days were numbered, but he proved me wrong last night . The band that he assembled was also impressive, after all they have some big shoes to fill, but they handled it will.

On to the show itself…the band came out with an intro and then burst into back to back Soundgarden songs, “Let Me Drown” and “Outshined”. Audioslave’s “Show Me How To Live” was next and followed by “No Such Thing” and “You Know My Name” from Cornell’s newest solo effort Carry On. During “You Know My Name” Chris brought his daughter out and she was singing along too, which had to strike the heartstrings of everyone in attendance. Other highlights from the show were Chris doing a solo acoustic performance of Bruce Springsteen’s “Atlantic City”, “Sunshower” from Great Expectations and pretty much any of the Soundgarden songs. However, the best part of the night was “Ty Cobb”, which hasn’t been performed since Soundgarden was still together, so that would be at least 10 years ago. After the rousing performance of “Ty Cobb”, Cornell said that the song was from his favorite Soundgarden album, Down on the Upside, which is my favorite as well.

There were only two problems with the show. The first was that some of the crowd had no clue who Chris Cornell was, they were obviously comped by the casino, which made the crowd seem weak. And, the second problem was that he didn’t play anything from his first solo album, Euphoria Morning. I would have preferred less Audioslave songs and more solo tracks, but he played “Ty Cobb”, so everything balanced out.
