Alice in Chains – Over Now

Alice in Chains – Over Now

Well this is my last post here at b5, so this is an utterly fitting song.
“Over Now” is the last track from Alice in Chains last studio album, which was their self-titled 1995 release. The track also appears on the band’s Unplugged performance and the compilation The Essential Alice in Chains.
Despite “Over Now” never being released as a single, it still charted on the Billboard rock charts.
A very cool and eerie tune, that seemed to foreshadow the end of one of Seattle’s finest.
Remember to visit Evolvor if you want to keep up with 90’s alt rock.

Alice in Chains To Release New Album This Year?

Alice in Chains To Release New Album This Year?

Blabbermouth posted some cool news from a Pulse of Radio interview with Alice in Chains main man Jerry Cantrell.
Here’s what Jerry had to say: “We’ve been working about the last four months, and there’s a good bulk of music and a good body of work so far, and we’re having fun, and you know, we’re taking our time and trying to figure out where William fits in and where we need to step up, and I have all the confidence in the world in the guys,” he also added, ”The most important thing to me is that we’re all together and, you know, it’s been a tough …read more

Remembering Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley

Remembering Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley

This past Saturday, April 5, marked a sorrow day for many folks.
If some of you don’t recall, it was the day that Kurt Cobain (in 1994) and Layne Staley (in 2002) left this world.
I always wonder what Kurt would have done following Nirvana; cause it seemed like the band was going to break up at some point (Dave was working on future Foo material for example). I’ve read that Kurt was going to lean towards a solo acoustic career, which have been amazing, if you don’t believe me then recall the band’s Unplugged performance.
Although some people say that Nirvana was overrated, I …read more

Mad Season – Lifeless Dead

Mad Season – Lifeless Dead

So, I’m going to be a bit conceited here and act like you all know that three of the biggest bands of the 90’s got together and started a side project during their reign of the mid 90’s. Anywho, they were called Mad Season, and the band consisted of members of such known bands as Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, and the Screaming Trees. I will leave you with a just a tease:

Alice In Chain’s Ax Man Jerry Cantrell Kills On “Boggy Depot”

Alice In Chain’s Ax Man Jerry Cantrell Kills On “Boggy Depot”

I have alot of respect for the man known as Jerry Cantrell. Why? Well, for starters, is one of the best guitarists and songwriters to come out of the 90’s rock scene. Look at all of AIC’s hits, and then look at who wrote the song – most credits go to Cantrell. The man took a back seat from the spotlight as front man Layne Staley chewed the headlines with heroin addiction. Didn’t matter to Cantrell, as his focus has always been on the music. That’s where I get my respect.
The demise of AIC in 1996 didn’t bother me too …read more

Alice in Chains – Jar of Flies

Alice in Chains – Jar of Flies

AIC released this essential EP back on January 25, 1994.
A lot of people mention 1992’s Dirt as the band’s most definitive album; but Jar of Flies showed us how talented and wonderful AIC were. All seven tracks are so perfectly written and performed, that it left us screaming for more.
That’s why it was no shocker that Jar of Flies hit the number one spot on the Billboard U.S. Chart. The public knew how good this music was.
If you don’t have a copy of Jar of Flies then you’re doing yourself a huge disservice. Seriously, go out or online and snag a copy; you …read more

Jerry Cantrell To Auction Off Clothes

Jerry Cantrell To Auction Off Clothes

Alice in Chains founder/guitarist, Jerry Cantrell, will be auctioning off some clothes for charity.
The money raised from the auction will go towards MusiCares and the Layne Staley Fund. The auction will begin on November 5 and will end on November 26. Cantrell will also be putting up items for the Grammy Charity Holiday Auction from November 26 to December 6.
Both auctions will take place at Ebay, obviously.
Pretty cool if you need some rock star memorabilia,  and even more importantly, it goes towards charity.

FYI: Velvet Revolver and the Seattle Connection

The current Velvet Revolver/Alice in Chains tour isn’t the first time that the members of VR have been tied up with a Seattle band. It’s a long and interesting road…

On September 29, 1992 AIC releases Dirt and STP with Core.
In 1995 Weiland’s side project The Magnificent Bastards covered “How Do You Sleep?” and the Layne Staley/Mike McCready project Mad Season covered “I Don’t Wanna Be A Soldier” on Working Class Hero: A Tribute To John Lennon.
In July of 1996 AIC replaces STP as the opening band for Kiss, due to Scott Weiland’s drug problems.
On November 6, 2001 Jerry Cantrell performs …read more

FYI: Alice in Chains

Seattle’s darkest and perhaps most underrated band, Alice in Chains, will be hitting the road with Velvet Revolver this summer and fall. Word is that they are also planning to record a new album.

The band formed back in 1987, when guitarist Jerry Cantrell met singer Layne Staley . The band was soon rounded out by Cantrell’s friend, bassist Mike Starr, and drummer Sean Kinney who was dating Starr’s sister.
Before settling on Alice in Chains, which was originally a band that Staley was in, however, it was spelled Alice N’ Chainz; AIC used the names Diamond Lie and F*ck.
The band’s first …read more
