Beck Involved in Double Suicide?

by User Imageacostill on December 22nd, 2007

I read this crazy story on the site for Philly radio station WMMR a few days ago.

Beck is implicated in a bizarre double suicide case that has made the pages of Vanity Fair and other outlets. New York artists and lovers Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake both committed suicide last July, with Blake taking his own life after learning of Duncan’s death. Duncan allegedly killed herself because she was despondent over Beck reneging on a promise to star in a film she planned to make called Alice Underground. Duncan blamed the Church of Scientology, to which Beck belongs, for the singer’s turnaround and alleged that members of the church were harassing her and Blake.

Beck has denied ever meeting with Duncan to discuss the film, calling her a “passing acquaintance.” However, Duncan had photos of herself, Blake, Beck and his wife spending time together at the beach. Duncan also said that Beck wanted to use the film as a way to leave the Church of Scientology, a claim which Beck called “totally false.”

Despite Beck’s attempt to distance himself from Duncan and her film, he discussed it in a 2003 Italian interview, saying, “It will be full of energy and full of characters…The director is a friend of mine, and it will be her directorial debut. But I trust her.”

I think this just proves that nothing good comes for the Church of Scientology. What the heck was Beck thinking?

Ok now I read the original article in New York Mag — but I got that issue a few months back (at least) and then they were blaming it on unfit mental states and drugs. No mention of Beck then (that I remember). Not like I’m trying to defend Beck over anyone but frankly, killing yourself over someone pulling out of a movie sounds far fetched. If not far fetched than at least incredibly stupid.

Life happens, deal with it. I can’t even believe when people try to pass suicide off on other people. You know, unless there was massive torture or abuse involved, which obviously there wasn’t.

In any case I remember thinking how lame the suicides were back when I first read the article and now it’s gotten even more lame. Ah, my rant for the day. Don’t usually pull off my rants here but this will do.

I agree with you. If someone killed themself over Beck not being in their film, then there probably was something else going on; maybe it was because of drugs or an unhealthy mental state.

However, it’s still an odd story because of Beck denying that he hardly knew them. Plus, throw in some Church of Scientology, and it makes it even more interesting.

There seems to be some kind of misunderstanding about Beck’s involvement and Duncan’s suicide. Theresa did not ‘kill herself because Beck backed out of the film.’ The author is referring to the harassment from Scientology because of Beck but not beck personally.
Scientology has a history of harassing others who expose what they are doing. Writers and journalists Paulette Cooper ( The Scandals of Scientology), Richard Behar Time & Forbes articles on Scientology), Joseph Mallia (Boston Herald ).. the list is long and ongoing. From the Boston Herald:

    Scientology Unmasked
‘Church of Scientology probes Herald reporter :
    Investigation follows pattern of harassment’

“The Church of Scientology is the only religious organization in the U.S. that uses private investigators to look into the private lives of reporters, several academic experts said.

“The question is not ‘Do they investigate,’ the question should be ‘Do they harass?’ ” said the Rev. Robert W. Thornburg, dean of Marsh Chapel at Boston University and a recognized expert on destructive religious practices. “And Scientology is far and away the most notable in that.

“No one I know goes so far as to hire outsiders to harass or try to get intimidating data on critics,” said Thornburg. “Scientology is the only crowd that does that.”
    ————————–

The church has been suing Gerry Armstrong on and off for over 24 years now. He was L. Ron Hubbard’s official biographer, he refused to write a fake bio on Hubbard and put the evidence into the hands public. They sue him because he won’t shut up.He had to move to Canada to get away from that cult and their PI’s.

Duncan and Blake were trying to file a lawsuit against Scientology for sabotaging their film and harassing them because they would not shut up about what the cult was doing to them. My theory is that Duncan became despondent because Blake was being talked out of suing by his stepfather Arthur Delibert, whose firm once lost an appeal they helped file for the Cult Awareness Network in their defence against a case with Scientology. That case lost resulted in Scientology bankrupting CAN. Scientlogy them bought out the trademark on the CAN name and as I write this, scientologists man the phones whenever someone calls the Cult Awareness Network seeking help with understanding cults. That is how that organization works.

Beck is lying to Vanity Fair and who can blame him? He’s scared of the consequences that will come if he tells the the truth. Here is info on the 2003 interview he had with Sandra Cesarale in Corriere della Sera, as reported by Emmanuelle Richard:

    What about [your debut] movie?
“It will be full of energy and full of characters: some kind of Alice in Wonderland set in the 70s. It still doesn’t have a title. The director is a friend of mine and it will be her directorial debut. But I trust her. We will begin shooting in the Fall.”
    http://www.emmanuelle.net/2007/12/a_propos_de_beck_et_alice_unde.html

Scientology will force his scientologist family members to disconnect from him if he remains in doubt about staying a member. Duncan knew what was going on. So does Beck’s mother,. Bibbe Hanson, who left the church several years ago, as so many other have done. It’s easy to lie because dead men and women don’t talk.
