FYI: Weezer

FYI: Weezer

It’s a perfect time to do an FYI on Weezer, since they just released their sixth studio album this past Tuesday (June 3).

The band was formed by Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar), Matt Sharp (bass), Patrick Wilson (drums) and Jason Cropper (guitars) in 1992, supposedly on Valentine’s Day.
After 16 months together Weezer was signed by DGC (Geffen Records).
The band relocated to New York City to record their debut album at Electric Lady Studios, which was produced by the Cars Ric Ocasek.
During the recording of the album guitarist Jason Cropper left the band and was replaced by Brian Bell, who was the …read more

Nirvana – Sappy

Nirvana – Sappy

One of my favorite Nirvana songs, which I’ve been playing a lot. For me, it’s a great song to explain those times when you just feel trapped in life. Whether it’s because of a relationship, work, or just life in general. It helps me feel less overwhelmed. Although, I think it’s rather obvious that this is about a girl in a confined life, but I let it work for me anyways.
“Sappy” was supposedly one of Kurt Cobain’s favorite songs that he had written, but he was never satisfied with how it turned it. This probably would explain why the song …read more

Yahoo’s 25 Best Alt-Rock Bands of the 90’s

Yahoo’s 25 Best Alt-Rock Bands of the 90’s

You could probably imagine my excitement when I jumped online this morning and saw that Yahoo had compiled a list of the 25 best alternative rock bands of the 1990’s.
Then, it dawned on me that music lists on Yahoo are made up by this clown named Rob O’ Connor, but I still gave it chance.
While it’s not a bad list at all, he did make the mistake of leaving out some of the best. Bands like Radiohead and Pearl Jam (right there is no no) and even the amazing Jeff Buckley were not included. But, Pavement and Cracker were …read more

New Music Tuesday: Weezer, Radiohead, Gavin Rossdale

New Music Tuesday: Weezer, Radiohead, Gavin Rossdale

It’s Tuesday, which means brand new music. This week will be an interesting one for 90’s alt. rock fans with releases from Weezer, Radiohead and Gavin Rossdale.
Weezer’s sixth studio album was supposed to be released on June 24, but after many of the songs were leaked, the album was moved up to today. The Red Album, as it’s been dubbed, has already scored a modest hit with it’s first single, the catchy “Pork and Beans”. However, the real concern from fans is can the band’s third self-titled release finally live up to the band’s early potential? Early reviews don’t …read more

STP Reunion Already in Trouble?

STP Reunion Already in Trouble?

This past weekend STP continued their reunion tour with shows in Holmdel, NJ and Mansfield, MA.
The show in Holmdel, which was at PNC Bank Arts Center on Saturday for K-ROCK’s Return of the Rock show, has left some folks questioning Scott Weiland’s state of mind, or his battle with addiction.
The New York Times reviewed the show, where they stated that Weiland’s few comments were “barely coherent”. They also added that his remarks were “dispiriting” when he stated: “Sometimes you make crazy choices”.
Radio personalities Opie and Anthony also weighed in about the show in Holmdel, after STP came out more …read more
