Pearl Jam – Brother

Pearl Jam – Brother

Since my little brother is returning from Italy tomorrow, and I also have something big planned for Pearl Jam in May, “Brother” has been playing a lot this week.
“Brother” appears on Pearl Jam’s Lost Dogsalbum, which is full of rarities. It was originally an outtake from their debut album Ten.
Apparently this song almost broke the band up before they even got started. Stone Gossard, who wrote the song, was tired of playing the riff which ticked off bassist Jeff Ament to point of almost quiting the band. Gossard apparently didn’t even care to have “Brother” included on Lost Dogs.
There’s even more trouble with this song. …read more

Portishead – Third

Well, today is the day that a lot of music fans have been waiting for.
After more than a decade long hiatus, the Bristol pioneers have returned with their their third album entitled Third, pretty clever huh?
Now, I haven’t picked up the album yet, or listened to all of it, so this is more of a reminder for everyone who happens to read this blog to go pick it up. You know it’s going to be a good one.
I’ve checked out some reviews (even though you can’t base everything on reviews, I just wanted to get some feedback) where I even …read more

Scott Weiland Recording 2nd Solo Album

Despite getting back together with STP, Scott Weiland is already looking forward to his second solo album.
While on the Howard Stern show, Weiland announced that he was working on the album with legendary producer Steve Albini (he’s worked with the Pixies, Page & Plant, PJ Harvey and Nirvana). Also, Weiland revealed that No Doubt’s Adrian Young would be appearing as the album’s drummer.
As of now, there is no other info, but I did read that November is the expected release date, so we’ll have to wait and see.

Nine Inch Nails Free New Track

Nine Inch Nails Free New Track

Trent Reznor and company just released a new track entitled “Discipline”, which is available for FREE at nin.com.

It’s a pretty cool song, but should anyone really complain? I mean Trent is really sticking to this giving away music thing, which is awesome.
Besides enjoying the track as is, fans also have an opportunity to remix the tune at the band’s remix site.
The band also mentioned that more tour info and “some other info about something else, too” would be arriving soon. One can only speculate with Trent.
As of now, Nine Inch Nails will …read more

Cake – Never There

Cake – Never There

“Never There” was the first single off of Cake’s third album Prolonging the Magic in 1998. It spent 3 weeks at the top spot on the Modern Rock Tracks, making it a pretty big single.
What I like about “Never There”, and I guess most Cake songs, is that the music is just a tad upbeat, while the lyrics are pretty much depressing, but always manage to speak the truth. Their a clever band.
Check out the video, if you forgot the song.
Oh yeah, the video is pretty entertaining as well.

Stone Temple Pilots – ‘Tiny Music’…revisited

Stone Temple Pilots – ‘Tiny Music’…revisited

Since we already mentioned STP today, let’s keep the theme going.
I already did a post on Tiny Music last summer, but it’s still my favorite STP album (and their best). Besides, this beautiful weather just tells me that it’s time to bring this album back by blasting it for all to hear.
With that, here’s my post from last August: Stone Temple Pilots – Tiny Music…Songs From The Vatican Gift Shop.
Until next time, enjoy the groovy video for “Big Bang Baby”.

STP to Release DVD

STP to Release DVD

Stone Temple Pilots are apparently going to release a DVD of their private Houdini estate performance from April 7, where they also announced a massive 65 date tour.
There’s no other info at this time, but be sure to check out the band on May 1 when they appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
I love STP, but I’m not too sure about this. It seems kind of lame to release a live DVD with only 7 tracks, but if they add some special features then I’m game.
For now, check out this little sampler from the April 7 performance.
