I feel kind of bad because I’ve been slacking on new FYI’s, but I’ll get back into the swing of things once the holidays are over.
Anyways, it seems appropriate to close out the year with some FYI’s on the 90’s bands that had a pretty decent 2007.

The Biggest Disappointments of 2007

The Biggest Disappointments of 2007

2007 was a pretty decent year for 90’s alternative bands, but with the good comes the bad. So, here are the five biggest disappointments of 2007.
5. Chris Cornell – Carry On. I love pretty much anything that Chris Cornell does, minus the last two Audioslave albums, so I was thrilled when I heard that he was releasing his second solo album. Euphoria Morning is still one of my all time favorite albums, so my expectations were high. Carry On does have a handful of decent tracks, like “Arms Around Your Arm” and “Killing Birds”, but as whole it just didn’t …read more

Top 7 Albums of 2007

Top 7 Albums of 2007

Hopefully you got some cash or gift cards over the holidays that are burning a hole in your pocket. So, here are the top seven albums from this year that you need to pick up from 90’s alternative bands, if you haven’t done so yet.
7. Velvet Revolver – Libertad: Ok, VR isn’t exactly a band from the 90’s, but their members were around then and that’s good enough for me. Libertad had some hype behind it (which makes sense since this is a supergroup) and it actually delivered. VR proved with this album that they’re actually their own band, and not just Scott …read more

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Here’s one last Christmas song for everyone to enjoy.
This version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” was recorded live last year by former STP and current Velvet Revolver frontman Scott Weiland on the Tonight Show.
You can pretty much just say “Wow” after listening to it. It’s good stuff.
Happy Holidays everyone.

Smashing Pumpkins To Release Acoustic EP

Smashing Pumpkins To Release Acoustic EP

Billy Corgan will be releasing an acoustic EP through iTunes on January 2 called American Gothic.
The EP will feature four new tracks, which are entitled “The Rose March”, “Pox”, “Again, Again, Again (The Crux)” and “Sunkissed”. The songs were recorded during a break on the Pumpkins latest tour.
The EP will be released digitally here in the States for now, but a physical version will hit the shelves in international markets sometime in the future.
While I am somewhat interested, Zeitgeist was so unbearable to listen to that I’m probably forced to ignore this release.

Beck Involved in Double Suicide?

Beck Involved in Double Suicide?

I read this crazy story on the site for Philly radio station WMMR a few days ago.
Beck is implicated in a bizarre double suicide case that has made the pages of Vanity Fair and other outlets. New York artists and lovers Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake both committed suicide last July, with Blake taking his own life after learning of Duncan’s death. Duncan allegedly killed herself because she was despondent over Beck reneging on a promise to star in a film she planned to make called Alice Underground. Duncan blamed the Church of Scientology, to which Beck belongs, for the …read more

FYI: Stone Temple Pilots Revisited

FYI: Stone Temple Pilots Revisited

Ok, I’m back on an STP kick, so let’s revisit the FYI I did on them from last August.
FYI: Stone Temple Pilots
Until next time enjoy “Kitchenware & Candybars”, which is one of my favorite STP songs, from VH1’s Storytellers.

Stone Temple Pilots – Christmas Time Is Here

Stone Temple Pilots – Christmas Time Is Here

Since I love Peanuts and STP, it’s only fitting that I would dig this Christmas tune; which happens to be one of my all time favorites.
STP’s version was recorded live back on December 19, 1994 for KROQ’s Almost Acoustic X-Mas show in L.A.
Scott proves how great of a singer he is and Dean DeLeo accompanies this with some smooth guitar work. It just fulls you up with holiday cheer!
Do yourself a favor and listen to it at STP’s MySpace page.

Odelay Going Deluxe

Odelay Going Deluxe

Beck will be reissuing his fantastic 1996 album Odelay on January 29.
The deluxe version of Odelay will be a double disc effort. It will feature 16 b-sides, including remixes, 2 unreleased tracks (“Inferno” and “Gold Chains”, produced by the Dust Brothers), and a Spanish version of “Jackasss” entitled “Burro”, which features a mariachi band.
Sounds sweet!
I’ll be picking this goody up.

Weezer – The Christmas Song

Weezer – The Christmas Song

This is a typical Weezer song, despite the title.
It originally appeared on L.A. radio station KROQ’s 1999 Christmas compilation; but it also appeared on imports of the band’s 2001 self titled album, aka The Green Album and I think it was also a single.
Basically, it’s what we’ve come to expect from Rivers Cuomo; him being alone. However, this time poor Rivers is left beside the Christmas tree all by himself.
I know what Rivers needs for Christmas…a hug.
It’s still a cool song.
