Jeff Buckley – Grace

Jeff Buckley – Grace

I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long to mention Jeff Buckley’s Grace, since it’s one of my favorite albums ever.
Released on August 23, 1994, this was Jeff Buckley’s first and last complete studio album. In 2004, a Legacy edition was released, which includes the long sought after “Forget Her”
At some point you’ve probably heard his cover of “Hallelujah” While it’s a great track, Grace has so much more to offer.
“Lover, You Should Have Come Over” is probably one of the best songs ever written. The lyrics and passion stay with you, like a ”tear that hangs inside my soul forever”. “Eternal …read more

FYI: Radiohead

FYI: Radiohead

Hopefully by now you’ve heard the news about Radiohead’s new album, if not, you can go here or there for more info. With all this buzz, it seems like a good time for an FYI on Radiohead.

Colin Greenwood, Thom Yorke, Ed O’ Brien, Phil Selway and Jonny Greenwood went to Abingdon School together.
In 1986 they formed the band On A Friday and played their first gig at Jericho Tavern in Oxford.
Guitarist Jonny Greenwood originally joined the band as a keyboard player.
In 1991 the band signed with EMI and changed their name to Radiohead.
“Radio Head” is a song featured on the Talking Heads …read more

The Top Alternative Beatles Covers

The Top Alternative Beatles Covers

It seems like a prequiste to cover The Beatles if you’re in a band. Everyone from legends, (such as Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash and Stevie Wonder), to more diverse acts (Motley Crue, PM Dawn, Aerosmith), to the are you serious covers, such as Jim Carry’s take on “I Am The Walrus”, have covered the Fab Four. With that being said, I now present the best Beatles covers from alternative bands.
Ben Harper – “Strawberry Fields Forever”: This lovely rendition appears on the soundtrack for I Am Sam. It’s mellow and true to the original, with Ben Harper putting his own little spin on this classic tune.
Ben Folds – “Golden Slumbers“: …read more

Veruca Salt – Seether

Veruca Salt – Seether

This was the breakout song from Veruca Salt’s 1994 debut album American Thighs.
“Seether” is a catchy little number that proves that girls can rock. It doesn’t hurt that the song’s writer, Nina Gordon, and fellow Veruca Salt founder Louise Post are hotties.
Oh yeah, that dreadful band Seether got their name from this song. I guess everything has some sort of flaw.
Anyways, check out the video and then have “can’t fight the seether” ring in your head for days and days.

Chris Cornell On Tour…Again!

Chris Cornell will remain on the road until the end of November, as he adds another round of dates.
The former Soundgarden/Audioslave frontman has been touring for the last six months in support of his second solo album Carry On. He’s currently wrapping up some dates in the Western parts of the U.S. and Canada before heading to Australia and then returning to the States…again! I think my man needs a well deserved rest soon.
Speaking of Australia, you should check out the Oz Music Scene for all of your land down under needs.
