FYI: The Flaming Lips

FYI: The Flaming Lips

The Flaming Lips just released a live DVD and will be hitting the road this fall, so it seems like a good time for some FYI on the Okie natives.
The Flaming Lips formed in 1983 in Oklahoma City, OK.
Frontman Wayne Coyne’s brother, Mark, was the original singer.
The original Lips line-up was: Wayne and Mark Coyne, Michael Ivins on bass and Richard English on drums.
Their debut album was a 5 song self-titled effort with Mark Coyne on lead vocals.
Wayne took over lead vocals after his brother’s departure.
In 1986 the band released their first full length album, Hear It Is on …read more

No New Radiohead Until 2008

No New Radiohead Until 2008

Maybe you’ve heard that Radiohead are recording (probably finished) their 7th album. The follow up to 2003’s Hail To The Thief has been a lengthy process.
The band began working on new material in 2005 and have continued since. They’ve been in the studio and also toured. The band even unveiled several new songs on the road in 2006.
Back in June of this year, the band left a message on their site, which stated that they were almost there, now we’re going to have wait another year. The main reason for the hold up is because the band is currently looking for a new label. Hopefully …read more

The Stone Roses – Love Spreads

The Stone Roses – Love Spreads

“Love Spreads” was the first single from the 1994 album Second Coming.
It’s a very cool song. It has great and classic guitar riffs, reminds me of CCR meets Zeppelin. The lyrics are supposedly about Jesus actually being a black woman. Putting religious arguments aside, the chorus is real catchy and its been stuck in my head for days.
The band made three music videos for “Love Spreads”, but I like this one the most. Oh yeah, keep a look out for a cameo by Beck.

Black Market Radio – Better Than A Killer

Black Market Radio – Better Than A Killer

The first question you may be asking is, who exactly is Black Market Radio.
Well, that’s a good question. Black Market Radio is a New  City based band formed by Peter Cornell (this would be Chris Cornell’s brother) and bassist Keith Mannino. Currently, the band is rounded out by the brothers Hummel on guitar and drums.
Better Than A Killer is actually a revamped version of the band’s debut album Suicide Parlor. As for their music, it should be exactly what 90’s and current alternative fans are looking for. BMR accomplishes what so many other bands have failed to do; make music …read more

Headlined by The Flaming Lips and Cake, the festival will also host The Decemberists, Spoon, Kings of Leon, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and many, many more alternative and indie acts!
2 days of music at Red Rocks, you’d be a fool not to take advantage of this. I can’t even imagine the live spectacle of the Flaming Lips at Red Rocks, it should be a thing of glory.
You can …read more

FYI: Live

The boys from York, Pa are wrapping up a tour with Counting Crows and Collective Soul, but they’re going to keep on truckin’ into the fall.
The members of Live have been together since middle school, when they teamed up for a talent show.
The band originally called themselves Public Afflection.
In 1989 Public Afflection self-released a cassette entitled The Death of a Dictionary.
Public Afflection recorded demos of “Begin the Begin” by R.E.M. and “Boys Don’t Cry” by The Cure.
In 1990 the band released an EP, Divided Mind, Divided Planet that featured songs that would appear on Mental Jewelry.
The band played the …read more

Eddie Vedder – Hard Sun

Eddie Vedder – Hard Sun

“Hard Sun” is the first single from the soundtrack to the upcoming flick Into The Wild, which is Sean Penn’s adaptation of the novel. Eddie Vedder not only contributes “Hard Sun”, but the entire soundtrack, which comes out September 18. I can’t wait!
“Hard Sun” is actually a cover from Indio, a band fronted by Gordon Peterson. The original version features back up vocals by someone named Joni Mitchell, it’s so hard to be sarcastic on the web. Vedder’s version has Sleater- Kinney’s Corin Tucker helping out.
The song has been in my head for days, honestly, I can’t stop listening to …read more
