Despite mp3 players and satellite or online radio channels, your good old FM radio may become cool again.

In New York, KROCK has returned from a talk show format back to a modern rock radio station and in Philadelphia Radio 104.5 has emerged, filling a void that Y100 left in 2005. Seems like a perfect time to mention the second song leaked from the Smashing Pumpkins 6th album, Zeitgeist, which comes out this upcoming Tuesday (July, 10). Also, “Doomsday Clock” is featured in the Transformers movie and soundtrack, which came out on July 3 (and by the way the movie totally rocks and does a fantastic job of pleasing old fans while giving it a modern spin).

I’ll admit that I was very anticipated to get my hands on Contraband, the 2004 debut album from Velvet Revolver. Being a huge STP fan and admiring Guns ‘N’ Roses for their sheer raw talent, Velvet Revolver seemed too good to be true. The lineup for this year’s Voodoo Festival in New Orleans was released last week, and it looks pretty sweet. This year the festival will take place from October 26-28, expanding from a 2 to 3 day experience for the first time.

Headliners include the reunited Rage Against The Machine and the revamped Smashing Pumpkins (I can’t call them reunited without the inclusion of guitarist James Iha and bassist D’arcy, it’s only half the band with just Billy and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin). Other 90’s survivors on the bill include Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and The Black Crowes.
